The idea of DSU began with the proposal formally submitted to His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef Al-Saud, the Emir of the Eastern Region in April 2013, which began in late 2012.
The idea was established since the beginning of the work of Dr. Abdullah Al-Kadi, Vice-President for Studies, Development and Community Service, as one of the important initiatives to obtain the necessary and timely information and data.
Several specialists were then contacted and the project proposal document and scope of work effectively allocated to the decision support system were developed to create the project scope document in March 2014.
The procedures of building the system through the professional and international methodology followed, as well as the construction of pages and indicators of actual proof of the concept of applying the theory to reality, and was launched in July 2014.
The space of the Unit and the recruitment of local and international human resources to build the data warehouse system and business intelligence system were established by virtue of the decision of His Excellency the Rector No. 49185 dated 10/09/1435 AH under the name of the Decision Support Unit.
After that the university continued to build the system and involve all the university staff to build the system to be launched in full and final form in October 2015. The first products of the unit was launched at the same month through the University Observatory website.
The product was widely marketed to include the presence of former Minister of Education Dr. Azzam Al-Dakhil and the visit of several universities such as Al-Baha University, Tabuk University, Prince Sattam University, King Faisal University King Fahad University, King Abdulaziz University, Saudi Aramco and many academic organizations. As well as the presentation conducted in a workshop established by the Ministry of Education and in the presence of the Minister of Education and the universities of the Kingdom in May 2016, as well as for universities and international, local and regional organizations.
