Course Description
Content:
The course is considered as a safety guide of the students to recognize and control the different types of hazards; likely to cause death or serious physical harm, in chemical, physical and biological laboratories. It provides the students with the necessary information and practice to work safely in the laboratory and helps in increasing the awareness of the students with the good laboratory practice. The course is based on Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laboratory Safety Guidance to acquaint the students with the international standards in the field of study.
Course Objectives & Outcomes
Objectives:
- Recognize the different potential hazards including chemical, physical and radioactive hazards.
- Work safely in the lab and respond to emergency situations.
- Use the safety equipment properly.
- Handle and dispose properly the different types of laboratory wastes.
- Outline chemical storage principles and practice.
Outcomes:
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- Acquire knowledge in the different hazards and laboratory safety.
- practice safety procedures and use the applied procedures to handle chemicals and laboratory equipment.
- Work in a team and gain leadership skills.
- Communicate proficiently and use computer programs that are related to this course
- Handle chemicals and laboratory equipment safely.
