Course Description
Structure II introduces students to various types of structural systems in general and those commonly used in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in particular. These systems include: suspended structures, shells, arches, trusses, floor slabs (e.g. solid slabs, hollow block slabs, panelled beam floors), folded plate, space frame and space truss structures. Students will gain an appreciation of the architectural requirements that include: the pattern of building use, architectural form and space requirements. Students will be able analyze architectural forms in order to choose the appropriate and optimum structural system for any given architectural form.
