Course Description
This course will investigate the practical, theoretical, and field studies on proto-chordates and euchordates(Vertebrates) throw classification and external features, and the characteristic features of each class of vertebrates with special emphasis on the morphological study of systematic biology ( Digestive system, Respiratory system, Urinogenital system, Nervous system). Significant principles of systematic biology of chordates, factors governing vertebrates distribution, and the conservation biology of vertebrates will be presented. Vertebrates and their importance to human life are presented.
Practical Content
The course involves detailed morphological and anatomical studies through dissection of selected vertebrates, transverse sections of different parts of the vertebrates body samples.
Course Objectives & Outcomes
At the end of this course, the student will be able to:
- Identify the Obtain a broad spectrum of knowledge on various vertebrate classes from proto-chordates to mammals, regarding their habitat, morphology, anatomy, biology, and economic importance.
- Understand the organization of higher taxonomy.
- Identify the scientific methods used to develop the phylogenies and study locomotion, morphological and anatomical structures of the major groups of vertebrates.
