Practice/lab: The course provides students with basic knowledge and skills in community pharmacy in terms of management and practice.
Aim
The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge and skills in community pharmacy in terms of management and practice.
Course Learning Outcomes
After completing this training, students should be able to:
- Apply basic skills to communicate effectively with patients and professional staff.
- Read prescriptions and identify some related problems.
- Dispense medicines and provide appropriate advice to patients.
- Keep narcotic medicines and other types of medicines appropriately according to the pharmacy laws.
- Describe inventory control and general pharmacy management.
Supervision and Assessments
- Male students are allocated to particular community pharmacies. Owing to the limitations of pharmacies, female students are to practice at primary health care centers instead.
- Faculty members are assigned to supervise the training program with the assistance of local pharmacists (or preceptors) for four weeks.
- The preceptors assess students’ attitudes (10%), attendance (10%), communication (10%) and understanding about community pharmacy (10%).
- Faculty members also evaluate students’ knowledge and skills.
- An exam will be arranged after finishing the summer training.
