Course Main Objective (concise and precise statement without bullets): 

The main objective of course is 

“Creative Translation" is a practical course which focuses on translating creative texts. This includes translating examples from Arabic and English rhetorical texts such as historical Islamic documents and oration. In addition, the course covers translating literary works ranging from novels and short stories to poetry.

Course Content:                                                                                                                              

  • Introduction to literary texts and the concepts of literariness and creativity. 
    • Literary translation methodologies and strategies. 
  • The characteristics of literary style in English and in Arabic 

  • Translation of literary texts (short stories, novels, poems and articles) from Arabic into English and vice-versa 
  • Strategies used to overcome problematic issues in literary translation. 

  • Analytical study of the stylistic features of the Holy Quran & Hadeeth
