The objective of this course is to provide knowledge and skills for emergency preparedness, planning and response, and to build professional competence for pre-and post-disaster risk assessment and communication. This course introduces students to various aspects and strategies adopted for disaster preparedness and mitigation. The topics include managing disasters, remote sensing and GIS for disaster mitigation, climate hazards and early warning systems, community-based disaster risk reduction and management - theory and practice, disaster governance, policy and risk management, disaster response and emergency management, earthquake, floor and fire management, human conflicts, and humanitarian emergency management.
