Course Main Objective

This course aims to make students acquire the basic concepts of indexing and abstracting of information resources and their theories and role in information organization. It further aims to make students acquainted with the practical skills to practice such processes.

  • Thesauri and indexes: importance, steps of preparation, how to use.
  • Types of indexes.
  • Automated index
  • Abstracting: its importance, procedures, preparing abstracts.
  • Types of abstracts.
  • Automatic abstract: its steps and obstacles.
  • The importance of indexing and abstracting in information retrieval.
