Course Description
Interior Design Studio-4 addresses Problem-Solving, Analytical Design and Spatial Planning in the context of Renovation of an existing building for better utilization. The project type thus is renovation of a multi-space/multi-function setting of low complexity, i.e. a vacation house, café, boat club, tourist information center, small business, etc. Emphasis is placed on Human- Centered Design with respect to users’ needs including: anthropometrics, ergonomics, psychological and social aspects which influence how interior spaces are used and arranged. In addition, the course will develop the students’ understanding of design language and composition, furniture, fixtures, equipment, materials, color and lighting to achieve a creative and functional design for the targeted users. By the end of the course the students will gain a wide scope of design thinking by applying the procedural Analytical Design Process that involves Needs-Context-Form, they will be able to analysis users’ functional needs, research for data and similar case studies, study the flow-chart of different activities, think creatively to come up with concepts and themes for their building and finally illustrate their ideas professionally. Continuing from the previous semester, students’ visual capabilities are observed aiming to further develop their intellectual, creative, graphic, and self-criticism skills.
