This course outlines the fundamentals of the safe operation of medical lasers. The students will be provided with the strategies and guidelines under which a laser can be safely operated as they will learn how to avoid a variety of potentially serious hazards associated with lasers, including burns, eye injuries, radiation injuries and dangerous chemical fumes. The course further provides instructions regarding safe operating distances, proper eyewear, correct signage, and other items that are critical to the safety of the operator and the patient or subject. The students will be able to identify the safety risks for lasers and describe the procedures for safely working with lasers.
