This course examines occupational health practices needed to address occupational safety and health issues in the workplace. It offers students the opportunity to study modern cutting-edge scientific concepts and research evidence on causation, prevention and management of work-related accidents, injury, and disease. The student will learn safe work practices in industry, offices and construction as well as how to identify and prevent or correct problems associated with occupational safety and health. Course topics include Adverse effects of occupational hazards: physical, chemical, and biological. Occupational Health Engineering; the measurement of chemical, physical, and biological hazards in the workplace. Accident analysis and prevention. Protective clothing Well person screening. Introduction to occupational psychology. Presentation and analysis on case studies, technical reports and scientific papers along with field visits to places of relevance to the subject.
