Course Description

Planning and design of seaports, harbors and facilities as access systems. Support transportation, use analysis and ocean transport crafts. Site selection and comprehensive planning. This course covers planning of marine terminals and small-craft harbors, ship berthing and maneuvering considerations, port navigation, marine structures, inland navigation, marine construction planning, sediment management, and port economics. A field trip to Port provides practical application of course material and shows students firsthand the unique challenges of engineering on the waterfront.
