On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University held the elections of the Saudi Scientific Association of Family and Community Medicine to elect the Association’s new Board of Directors. The elections were conducted by the Standing Committee for Scientific Association Elections under the supervision of the Chairs and Scientific Associations Unit at the University’s Vice Presidency for Research and Innovation. The process concluded with the election of 14 members to the new Board, including nine principal members and five reserve members.

His Excellency Prof. Fahad bin Ahmed Al-Harbi, President of the University, emphasized that the University is committed to ensuring that scientific associations serve as vital pillars in achieving the lofty aspirations of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030. He noted that the University has given these associations special priority by establishing a dedicated unit to oversee their affairs and by issuing regulations governing their electoral processes, in addition to procedural rules that will soon be implemented.

Prof. Al-Harbi further highlighted the University’s vision for the future: for scientific associations to become incubators of knowledge and research—spaces where specialists convene to exchange ideas and perspectives, and to advance the objectives of their fields in service of both the profession and society.

In her address to the members, Dr. Malak Al-Shammari, Chair of the Association, commended the significant efforts exerted by the Association throughout the previous term, which enabled it to achieve notable success and recognition across Saudi Arabia and internationally. She reviewed key accomplishments and expressed her best wishes for the newly elected Board in leading the Association toward further growth and excellence.

At the beginning of the gathering, Prof. Jamal Nour Al-Din Idris, Director of the University’s Chairs and Scientific Associations Unit and Chair of the Standing Committee for Scientific Association Elections, welcomed the University President for honoring the event with his presence despite his many commitments. He affirmed that this reflects the President’s deep attention to the role of associations as drivers of community service and scientific advancement. He also praised the close follow-up by the Vice President for Research and Innovation, which contributed to the distinguished success of these elections.

Prof. Al-Harbi then addressed the attendees, commending the accomplishments achieved in the field of scientific associations and extending his wishes for continued progress and prosperity in the new term. He emphasized that in the University’s forthcoming strategic plan, scientific associations will be placed among its top priorities to ensure their active contribution to research and community service.

The session also featured remarks by Legal Counsel Mr. Issa Al-Harbi from the University’s Legal Department, who confirmed the soundness and legality of the electoral procedures. He extended his best wishes to the Association for further advancement.

The elections concluded with the formal announcement of the names of the newly elected members of the Board of Directors.
