Course Description
Introduction to continuous culture kinetics and inhibited growth kinetics will be a part of this course, along with chemostat cultures, deviation from ideal, chemostat cultures with biomass recycle, plug-flow cultures, feed-batch and repeated batch cultures, biological oxidation, oxygen transfer and aeration, biological unit processes, oxidation ponds, aerated lagoons, activated sludge process, trickling filters, rotating biological discs, anaerobic treatment as well as the proper handling and disposal of wastewater solids. An introduction to activated sludge process kinetics, nitrification and denitrification systems, the basics of anaerobic suspended culture systems and the microbiology of wastewater treatment.
