Course Description
This course provides students with a thorough understanding of the basic science of Pharmacology that is essential to anesthesia practice. In this course students will be introduced to inhalational and induction general anesthetic agents and they will learn how to promote safety and quality during their usage. They will acquire an understanding of the mechanisms of drug actions and their uses as well as the mechanism and factors underlying adverse drug reactions, interactions and toxicities. In addition, students will gain an understanding of the mechanisms and side effects of drugs acting on various organs and systems, such as, the cardiovascular system, the nervous system, the gastrointestinal system, the endocrine system, and the reproductive system. Students will also be introduced to the mechanisms of action and side effects of antimicrobial drugs and the composition of various IV fluids and electrolytes preparations
