On behalf of the University of Dammam's President, the Vice Dean of the Academic Affairs launched UoD's annual celebration of International Arabic Language Day on December 18, 2014. This event was held in two venues, the Deanship of Academic Development's Hall hosted the men and the women met at the College of Science for Women and was sponsored by the Dean of the College of Arts, Dr. Amirah Ahmed Al-Jafary.
The celebration was organized by the Arabic Departments at the College of Arts and the College of Education in partnership with the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Center for Arabic Language and included several events.

A workshop entitled, "The Path to Proper Writing" was held that targeted staff members from the Al-Rayan Campus, that included brochures addressing common writing mistakes. The Arabic Department participated in a documentary that highlighted the Kingdom's efforts in preserving and enhancing the Arabic Language.

A symposium was also held later in the day entitled, "Arabic Language: Between Function and Creativity.The first session of this symposium was chaired by the Vice Dean of Library Affairs, Dr. Abdulaziz Al Sulaiman and the second session was chaired by the Head of Arabic Language Department, Dr. Nahed Alateeq.

 
Faculty from the Arabic Departments at the College of Arts and the College of Education participated in this engaging symposium beginning with Dr. Naif Alhabob's presentation, entitled: The Importance of Studying Arabic Linguistics in Understanding and Disclosing the Purposes. Other faculty presenters included:
Dr. Maha Alzahrani, Literary Criticism and Psychology 
Dr. Wadha Alqahtani,Poetry and History: A Comparative Study.
Dr. Ali Alshab'an,  Language and its Functions
Prof. Laila Radwan, Poetry Terminologies and their Semantic Reference in Classical Arabic Criticism 
Dr. Mona Al Ghamdi, The Initial Language of Speech Directed to Pre-School Children: Between the Classical and the Vernacular
