Course Description
This course will examine the roots of the Modern movement in architecture. Beginning with the Industrial Revolution and the emergence of Early Modern architecture. The growth and influence of Bauhaus, the International Style and the Chicago School, while examining the contributions of the grand masters such as: Le Corbusier, Mies Van Der Rohe and Walter Gropius will be covered. In addition, the plurality of architecture as expressed through various architectural movements, e.g. Internationalism, Brutalism, Minimalism, Post-modernism along with Sustainable architecture and Deconstruction in the 21st century will be studied.
