Marketing Research Unit

The Scientific Research Marketing Unit was established within the Deanship of Scientific Research at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal University in Dammam in the beginning of 2020, under the supervision and support of the Deanship of Scientific Research who believe in the importance of marketing scientific research to serve and develop the society and to be in line with the aspirations of the Kingdom's 2030 Vision, which calls for bridging the gap between the outputs of scientific research and the requirements of society and the labor market. Therefore, the unit seeks to draw a clearly defined policy, through marketing IAU's colleges, institutes and the scientific research centers' outputs, and work to build a healthy research environment for faculty members, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students and to invest the results of their scientific theses and research projects, and provide all services to facilitate and encourage the work of researchers.

Statistical Services Unit

The unit provides statistical services to university researchers at a high level of quality. It works to develop statistical skills among researchers and beneficiaries and supports the optimal use of statistical tools across various academic fields.

Publishing and Research Production Unit

The main objective of the Research Production Database Unit is the Research Performance Analysis of the University using the research databases tools such as Web of Science, Scopus, InCites, SciVal, Converis. The research KPIs includes Publications, Citations, Production rate, Citation impact analysis, Disciplinary analysis, Journal analysis, National & International collaboration analysis, National Rank etc.

Main Tasks:

  • Preparation of periodic reports on IAU research KPIs (monthly report)
  • Provide university’s publication list or publication related KPIs required by the different entities inside IAU (Strategic Planning Unit, Ranking Unit of Quality Deanship, Data Unit, NCAAA etc).
  • Provide university’s publication list or publication related KPIs required by Ministry of Education or other external entities.
  • Research Performance Analysis of Colleges, Departments, Researchers using SciVal
  • Identify top researchers in specific fields or topics as required
  • IAU profile correction in Scopus by reporting missed publications and wrongly spelled affiliations, if noted any (unification of affiliation).

Reporting Unit

The Reporting Unit is one of the core units within the Deanship of Scientific Research. It is responsible for the administrative and technical follow-up of research projects funded by the Deanship as well as those funded by external entities, such as Institutional Funding (IF) and the Research, Development and Innovation Office (RDO). Periodic and final reports, as well as scientific outputs, are evaluated by specialized reviewers.

 

The Reporting Unit also oversees the peer-review process for the Q1 Journal Publication Fee Reimbursement Initiative.

In addition, all clearance procedures for graduate students and faculty members are processed through the Reporting Unit.

Unit Responsibilities:

Unit Members – Duties include:

  • Receiving reports and scientific publications from researchers via the Reporting Unit’s email.
  • Informing researchers of the latest circulars related to reporting.
  • Handling the technical and administrative processing of researchers’ clearance requests.
  • Receiving all transactions via email: reports.dsr@iau.edu.sa
  • Forwarding submissions to the review committee through the administrative communications system.
  • Sending evaluation results to the Unit Head for approval.
  • Notifying researchers of the evaluation results via their official email.
  • Forwarding the complete transaction to the Director of Administrative and Financial Affairs for system-based disbursement.
  • Following up on research projects and notifying researchers when report submission deadlines approach.
  • Responding to inquiries via email.

Evaluation Committee:

  • Reviewers responsible for evaluating periodic and final reports, as well as scientific publications of research projects.
  • Unit Director (responsible for approving or rejecting the evaluation).

Financial Affairs – Responsibilities include:

  • Disbursing various types of financial rewards.
  • Monitoring the financial report disbursement process for research projects.
  • Auditing and review.
  • Closing and archiving research projects.

Public Relations Unit

This unit aims to coordinate and document the role of the Deanship, along with its programs and initiatives, for researchers and the community. It serves as the link between the Deanship and the community and seeks to:

  • Represent the Deanship of Scientific Research at conferences and internal and external exhibitions in which the university participates.
  • Organize, coordinate, and provide coverage for events, forums, visits, occasions, agreements, awards, and internal and external exhibitions in which the Deanship participates.
  • Activate the recreational role in an organized and periodic manner.
  • Organize courses, workshops, lectures, and programs related to researchers under the umbrella of the Deanship.
  • Host all internal and external visits related to the Dean of Scientific Research for the Deanship.
  • Provide gifts and giveaways for Deanship staff on various occasions.

Electronic Systems Management

The Electronic Systems Department is responsible for overseeing the development, maintenance, and operation of digital platforms that support scientific research activities at the university. Its responsibilities include research management systems, data collection tools, researcher profiles, and scientific publication tracking.

The department aims to ensure the integration of these systems with the university’s strategic directions and to provide an efficient technological environment that supports scientific research and innovation. It also oversees communication with external companies and the acquisition of advanced systems that contribute to research activities. 

Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis Unit

This unit was established with the aim of enabling and supporting multidisciplinary research and fostering innovation.

Services provided by the unit:

  1. Research Consultations: Providing support to researchers in data processing, model selection, algorithm development, results interpretation, and recommendations based on research needs.
  2. Capacity Building: Enhancing researchers’ skills through specialized training programs and hands-on workshops in artificial intelligence and data analysis.
  3. Responsible Use: Supporting ethical practices and sound governance of artificial intelligence and data technologies in alignment with the policies of the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA).
  4. Strategic Partnerships: Building productive partnerships with academic and industrial entities to strengthen the university’s research standing and societal contribution.

Theft Services Unit

The Deanship of Scientific Research relies on plagiarism detection software (Turnitin, iThenticate), which helps researchers maintain the originality of their proposals and publications while avoiding high similarity and citation indices.

The Plagiarism Services Unit is responsible for receiving requests from researchers, including faculty members and students, creating user accounts, and providing the necessary training and technical support.

Administrative and Financial Affairs

The Administrative and Financial Affairs Department at the Deanship is responsible for organizing and executing all administrative and financial operations to ensure efficient workflow in accordance with approved regulations and instructions. The department’s responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and organizing internal administrative affairs.
  • Monitoring financial matters and preparing documents related to disbursement and financial approval.
  • Managing administrative communications and receiving and directing official correspondence.
  • Tracking employee attendance, departures, and updating their job records.
  • Receiving and processing purchase requests for the Deanship.
  • Preparing disbursement justifications and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Providing the Deanship’s material and supply needs through coordination with central warehouses.

Human Resources Unit:

The Human Resources Unit is a subunit of the Administrative and Financial Affairs Department. It aims to provide services to the staff of the Deanship of Scientific Research and work on enhancing performance levels

Research Funding Office

The office focuses on achieving the strategic goal of developing the scientific research and innovation system. It aims to support the university in practical funding steps, starting from identifying suitable funding opportunities, negotiating contracts, and providing ongoing support to ensure the sustainability of projects.

The objectives of the office can be summarized as: 

  • Identifying additional external funding sources and seeking appropriate funding to support research and research projects.
  • Encouraging and enhancing the university’s participation in funded research programs to achieve excellence and competitiveness regionally and internationally.
  • Increasing opportunities for university researchers to participate in competitive funded projects and supporting their chances of obtaining them.

Making the researcher's task easier

The Deanship of Scientific Research provides a Researcher Facilitation Service for researchers inside or outside the university for various research purposes (surveys, interviews, statistical support, letters, etc.).

Tasks

  • Monitoring the Deanship of Scientific Research’s email.
  • Sending announcements, circulars, and invitations.
  • Responding to researchers’ inquiries.
  • Receiving researcher facilitation requests from faculty members or students, whether internal, external, or scholarship students.
  • Preparing letters to facilitate researchers’ tasks.
  • Providing researchers with statistical data..
