Overview
The Vice Deanship for Clinical Affairs oversees the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE), which represent the final and most transformative stage of the PharmD curriculum. The program delivers an intensive 11-month experiential training across diverse practice settings to enhance students' clinical competence, professional development, and readiness for contemporary pharmacy practice.
Internship Committee
The Internship Committee is responsible for the strategic oversight, governance, and continuous quality improvement of the PharmD Internship/APPE program. The committee ensures that experiential training is delivered in alignment with the College learning outcomes and accreditation requirements, while maintaining high standards of training quality, student support, and preceptor engagement across all practice sites.
Purpose
To ensure the effective planning, implementation, monitoring, and enhancement of the PharmD Internship/APPE program, including site readiness, student progression, assessment integrity, and overall training quality.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Program Planning and Structure: Oversee the structure and delivery of the Internship/APPE program (e.g., rotation blocks, core and elective training) and ensure alignment with the PharmD curriculum and required competency outcomes.
- Training Site Development and Quality Assurance: Identify, evaluate, and approve internship training sites; conduct periodic assessment of site capacity, learning opportunities, and compliance; and recommend corrective actions and improvement plans for underperforming sites.
- Preceptor Engagement and Development: Define preceptor eligibility criteria and expectations; support preceptor development initiatives; and recognize and promote high-performing preceptors and training sites.
- Student Placement and Rotation Coordination: Support equitable and competency-driven student placement; monitor rotation coverage and completion of core requirements; and address operational challenges during training blocks.
- Assessment, Evaluation, and Performance Monitoring: Oversee evaluation tools and processes; monitor student performance trends and completion rates; and review mechanisms for identifying students requiring remediation.
- Student Support and Professional Conduct: Review internship-related concerns and professional conduct issues; and recommend student support plans such as coaching, targeted remediation, and follow-up monitoring.
- Accreditation and Compliance: Ensure Internship/APPE processes align with accreditation standards and institutional policies and maintain documentation readiness for internal/external quality reviews.
- Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI): Review internship KPIs; propose improvement initiatives based on feedback and performance data; and submit periodic reports to the Vice Deanship for Clinical Affairs.

Reporting Line
The Internship Committee reports to the Vice Deanship for Clinical Affairs and provides formal updates as required.
Meetings
Regular meetings are scheduled at least once per academic block/term, and additionally as needed during internship peak periods.
