The philosophy of education at the Department of Architecture is based on a number of principles, including the belief that when both architectural and design values are present, an appropriate environment for creativity and innovation ensues. The Department is committed to developing the design skills of the students with a special focus on the technical aspect of the profession as well as improving the students’ methods of communication; striving for clarity, eloquence and professionalism. The students are exposed to a wide range of subjects in the five year program of study that covers topics such as: design, construction, theories of architecture and engineering science in addition to focusing on the local environment, economic aspects and social characteristics of the region. The department also offers a Master of Science degree in Architecture.
The Department of Architecture at the Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University is one of the oldest architecture departments in the Kingdom. Over the course of the last four decades it has steadily built a reputation for academic excellence; not merely for the technical skills our graduates have acquired, but for the deep understanding our students have of the social obligations and responsibilities they carry as architects in a rapidly transforming society like ours. From the beginning, the Department has consciously adopted a modern, progressive curriculum, with an emphasis on the unique cultural and climatic context of the region.
