Design Research Hub

The Design Research Hub (DRH) is a research community organized and supported by the College of Design. It consists of several design research groups with a vast variety of research interests whether theoretical or applied. Each group has a specialized leader and an assortment of members from different design and architectural related disciplines.

DESIGN RESEARCH HUB AIM AND OBJECTIVES
The DRH aims to facilitate a design research environment that supports researches and researches from all design interests. It intends to accomplish this aim by achieving the following objectives:
• Provide the technical and human support design researchers require
• Organize periodical seminars, symposiums, and conferences
• Offer constant research development training
• Support research funding processes
• Support research publication
• Encourage and support studies aiming towards enhancing the wellbeing of society.
• Encourage and invite research collaborations with governmental and private sectors regionally and internationally
• Encourage and support interdisciplinary researches
• Welcome external members from design and non-design related disciplines e.g. medical and education specialists to join research groups
• Support young researchers through practical research training opportunities.

Netaj Lab

Library

The satellite library of the College of Design provides students and faculty members with access to printed and electronic resources on different design areas including Art, Architecture, Interior design, Graphic Design, and Industrial Design. This library is mainly supervised by the Deanship of Library Affairs and is connected to the other 15 libraries of IAU.

Design Studios

All design studio courses are conducted in studios that are arranged to enable students to work in an open studio environment. A working space is allocated to each student where she can work creatively during studio hours. These studios are also designed with a shared white board walls that can be used while critiques, or for brainstorming sessions.
All students are expected to adhere to studio guidelines and policies outlined by their studio instructors.

Interactive Rooms

The interactive classrooms are fully equipped to facilitate the interactive and dynamic learning experience. Attendees can rearrange their seating clusters to work in groups of 4/6 anytime throughout a class.

Computer Labs

The college of design houses five computer labs that are accessible to all students of the college of design. These labs include 2 Windows Labs and 3 Mac Labs that are supported with the latest software and digital tools students may need for their courses.
Students are expected to follow the following guidelines for using the labs:
• Cell phones are not allowed, should be turned off or turned to a vibrate/silent setting.
• Lab users are asked to respect other users by keeping noise to a reasonable level in all labs.
• No trash should be left behind, all rubbish should be removed and placed in the bins provided.
• Chairs must be returned properly to its original places.
• Food is not allowed in the computer lab.
• Beverages allowed only in non-disposable, spill-proof containers with covers, such as leak-proof water bottles or mugs with spill-proof lids.
• The above policies must be observed by both, instructor and students.

Auditorium

The College houses two auditoriums with a capacity of 80 attendees each. These auditoriums are reserved for public lectures and talks that are hosted in the college. It is also used for big meetings as well as project critiques.

Pottery Workshop

This workshop is specifically used for pottery classes. It is equipped with electrical pottery wheels, kilns, washing area, and sufficient storage areas to be used by students who are registered in the pottery class. Students using the workshop are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:
• Cell phones are not allowed, should be turned off or turned to a vibrate/silent setting
• No trash should be left behind, all rubbish should be removed and placed in the bins provided
• Wearing Abayas inside the workshop is not allowed
• Chairs must be returned properly to its original places
• Food and drinks are not allowed in this workshop
• The above policies must be observed by both, instructor and students

Photography Lab

The photography lab of the College of Design provides students with the settings needed to make professional photo sessions equipped with essential tools such as soft box, umbrella lights, backdrops and more. The lab is mainly used for students enrolled in the Photography Course.
Students using the lab are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:
• Food and drinks are not allowed in this lab
• Practice caution when handling any equipment
• No trash should be left behind, all rubbish should be removed and placed in the bins provided
• All equipment must be returned properly to its original places
• The above policies must be observed by both, instructor and students

Brainstorming Rooms

These rooms are specifically designed for brainstorming or working creatively in a group. Each room can be occupied by 6-8 students and is equipped with a common working space, a screen for sharing, and a whiteboard to provide students with the means for collaboration. Brainstorming rooms are located in the First floor of the College of Design and is accessible by all students any time throughout the working hours.

Printing Shops

A printing shop is available at the College of Design to provide students with a variety of printing services. This shop allows students to make large prints of their work conveniently from the college.
