Activity Description

In partnership with the Eastern Council for Social Responsibility and Eastern Province Development Authority, the Department of Interior Design initiated this course for exploring possibilities of designing “Dammam City Gates” that reflect the historical and cultural characteristics of the Eastern region, specifically of the city of Dammam. The first part of the course covered the meaning, concept, and spatio-political role of city gates (entrance point) in the urban context. Then, students investigated the history and culture of the region, to develop a symbolic concept for the Gateway project which relates to the collective identity of the city of Dammam. The second part of the course focused on the project design process among students’ groups. In accordance with KSA’s 2030 vision, the design process is oriented to achieve several design criteria, with special emphasis upon symbolism, innovation and creativity.

The initiative is to spread and facilitate giving back in all possible ways, as part of our daily life activities, as charity and helping others are essential features of our Islamic religion.

Activity Description

The initiative aims to raise awareness about breast cancer by hosting a dialogue session with a doctor, a therapist and a psychologist to talk about the disease, its prevention, and dealing with the treatment and psychological state of the patient and her family in cooperation with Eastern Province Health division, University Hospital, Specialty Hospital and Al-Rahimi Clinics.

Activity Description:

In order to spread and promote awareness about the culture of volunteer work in the Saudi society, and to activate the Saudi and International Volunteer Day, in order to achieve the vision of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to reach the number of volunteers in the Kingdom to one million volunteers in 2030, the Community Service Unit at the College of Design announced the (Blow the Wind) initiative to celebrate the Saudi/International Volunteer Day, which falls on 5/12/2021, to highlight the various aspects of the volunteering process by presenting successful and influential experiences in various volunteer fields targeting all segments of society, with a focus on higher education employees, students and faculty members from different disciplines, to inspire and motivate them to activate their experiences and skills in volunteer work under the auspices of Rawabi Holding Company.

Activity Description:

The College of Design greeted the orphans of Binaa Charity Association with a festive party to celebrate Eid Al-Adha by hosting a group of orphans with their mothers and preparing educational and recreational activities for children that reflect the spirit of Eid and delight the orphans. The ceremony included various events and activities for children, photography corner, Eid cake, lunch, and breakfast, and distributing gifts.
