Department Civil and Construction Engineering
Overview
The Department of Civil and Construction Engineering at Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU) is intending to initiate a graduate program with two tracks Track 1: “Master of Science in Civil Engineering (M. Sc.)” and Track 2: “Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering (M. Eng.)”. Both tracks focus in three civil engineering areas of specializations: (1) Structural Engineering, (2) Geotechnical Engineering, and (3) Construction Engineering.
Mission
The mission of the program is to provide high quality Civil engineering post-graduate education in the Saudi Arabian Kingdom to satisfy the continuously increasing needs for highly qualified civil engineers due to the continuous developments in the built environment as directed by the vision of 2030.
Vision
Support Saudi Vision 2030 by preparing innovative engineering researchers and professionals who can meet the challenges of sustainable built environment in this competitive age of globalization.
Objectives
Graduates of the program will be prepared to:
- Possess advanced knowledge and skills in the field of civil engineering to embark on recognized professional career in local or global industry addressing some of the most challenging problems at our times.
- Apply fundamental principles of civil engineering to analyze, design and understand the behavior of a system or component.
- Become leading multi-disciplinary researchers who contribute to knowledge and science.
- Continue life-long learning process to remain up-to-date and effective professionals with thorough understanding of their ethical and social responsibilities.
Program Value
The program’s curriculum has been designed to provide students with the latest construction techniques, advanced skills and help in understanding contemporary design approaches using innovative construction and smart materials. The program will also provide the students with globally recognized cutting edge research in the field of civil engineering. The integration of up-to-date theoretical and practical aspects will help to provide necessary synergy that will be the prime essence of this program.
General Graduation Requirements
Course loads and success in the program:
- The program consists of six core courses, and six elective courses
- A minimum grade of C+ is required to pass any course.
Exit Point Graduation Requirement
Student can graduate early without completing their master's degree. During the study period, students may find themselves unable or unwilling to complete the full degree for which they enrolled. If a student chooses to terminate their studies late in their program, they will be allowed to do so provided they have completed at least 24 credit hours of courses in the first year, which is sufficient to be granted Higher Diploma in Civil Engineering. The Higher Diploma is a lower qualification compared to the students’ enrolled in the master's degree program. This is known as an Exit Award. The only exception is where a student is dismissed from the university on discipline grounds.
